Halloween 2016 is just around the corner and it provides a perfect opportunity for your business to have some fun with its marketing efforts. Decking your business out doesn’t mean you have to try very hard — people will already be knocking on doors. You’ll be able to tap into the market of adults who love Halloween. It’s a great time for everyone to be festive and it only lasts for 24 hours so you might as well take advantage of the holiday.

If you have a store front

There are a lot of ways you can take advantage of Halloween marketing if you have a place to interact with customers. Last minute ideas include:

  • Decorating your store front. You don’t have to move any of your current displays, just add some spider webs to the windows, feature a jack-o-lantern, or put a mask on a mannequin – get creative with it.
  • Decorating the inside of the store. You can place cobwebs and spiders around the register or borrow a smoke machine and play some eerie music off your phone.
  • Giving out treats. This could mean handing out candy throughout the day, leaving a bowl beside the register or giving out free samples of your products.
  • Hosting a contest between employees. Get your staff to dress up and have customers vote on who they think is the best dressed. This will engage your customers, staff and become great content for social media.
  • Offering a perk for everyone who comes to the store in a costume, whether it’s a discount or free candy. If you advertise it on social, people will show up.

If you don’t have a customer facing shop

  • Engage over social media — it’s easy content. This could be as simple as posting images of  employees in costumes, sending out a couple of tweets or posting an image on Facebook.
  • Change up your logo on social, just for the day. Depending on your logo there’s a lot you can play around with.
  • Hand out business cards with individual packs of candy.
  • Offer an online special for the day with a Halloween theme promo-code.
  • Host a social media contest. Get people to take a picture in their costume with one of your products and post it on social media with a hashtag on Halloween for a chance to win a discount or prize.

Halloween presents a prime time for social media engagement and a great opportunity for you have some fun with your small business. No one like the fact that Halloween falls on a Monday but make the most of it and you’ll see an increase in traffic.

Happy Halloween from 411!
