Wrapping Up Summer in Toronto | 2016 Edition

Although the end of summer is near, it’s not over yet, which means there’s still a chance to explore some Toronto summer events and festivals. Whether you live in the City or are coming for a visit and are looking for fun things to do in Toronto, these events will be a great way to end your summer with a bang.

 

Casa Loma

Soul in the City, Starring Sean Jones is hosted every Monday night, where you can enjoy dancing around the castle and walking through the beautiful grounds. The venue also hosts Symphony in the Garden on Tuesday nights, with the Toronto Concert Orchestra. It’ll be a night straight out of a fairy tale.

LUZIA by Cirque du Soleil

LUZIA is a story that’ll take you to an imaginary Mexico. It’s a show that will blow you away with original music written by Canadian Composer, Simon Carpentier, vibrant colours, and outstanding acts.

SummerWorks Performance Festival

SummerWorks is the largest curated performance festival in Canada featuring theater, dance, music and live art. For 11 days in August, the festival will host over 500 artists, performing in over 60 projects. If you love the arts, you’ll love this festival.

Taste of the Danforth

The Taste of the Danforth festival is perfect if you’re looking for things to do in Toronto this weekend. It takes place in the heart of Toronto’s Greektown and features mouth-watering Greek food like souvlaki and spanakopita, as well as Thai, Indian and Cuban cuisine. It’s an event your tastebuds will thank you for attending.

When: This weekend, August 5 to 7

Where: Danforth Avenue, between Broadview and Donlands

 

JerkFest

JerkFest is another one of the festivals in Toronto this weekend, celebrating popular jerked dishes loved throughout the Caribbean. Attendees can sample several different types of jerk cuisine such as chicken, pork, alligator, and rabbit. Besides catching a bite, you can also see a number of musicians perform and experience Caribbean culture.

When: This weekend, August 5 to 7

2016 Ontario Summer Games

The 2016 Ontario Summer Games, hosted in the City of Mississauga, is the largest in history. Athletes from Ontario, ages 13 to 17 compete to prepare for national and international sports competitions. Events include boxing, diving, hockey, karate, kickboxing, sledge hockey, table tennis, taekwondo, wrestling, and weightlifting.

When: August 11 to 14

Toronto Vegan Food and Drink Festival

This food festival will feature the most reputable vegan vendors, serving vegan comfort food, craft brews, wines, and spirits. General Admission tickets are only $10 and VIP tickets are $20 (Includes three complimentary drink tokens).

When: August 13

Where: Fort York, Garrison Common

 

CNE

The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) also know as The EX, is Canada’s largest community event and takes the cake for things to do in Toronto summer 2016 – and every other year for that matter. It takes place over the 18 days leading up to and including Labour Day. It’s an end-of-summer ritual with more than 1.601 million visitors annually.

When: August 19 to September 15

Where: Exhibition Place

Toronto International BuskerFest for Epilepsy

This event is the largest epilepsy event in the world and supports the local charity, Epilepsy Toronto. It’ll be a spontaneous and colourful weekend, featuring performances including silent comedy and slapstick, daredevils and magicians, high skill circus acts and a wide variety of music, clowns, contortionists, acrobats, aerialists, puppets, fire and much more. Don’t miss out on a fun and charitable weekend.

When: September 2 to 5
