The heart of my philosophy centers on the concept that effective assessment requires a comprehensive and thorough evaluation of the individual's strengths and areas of need, and it involves providing an individual with the fundamental tools, recommendations, strategies, and supports that he/she needs in order to perform and be successful. When completing an assessment, I invite an individual to reflect on his/her life experiences and I bring in knowledge from research to contextualize and explore answers to his/her assessment questions. I view my role as that of a skilled professional guiding an individual in the course of constructing his/her knowledge base and better understanding who he/she is as a person. My clinical experience, as well as my experience as an instructor, has indeed provided me with the opportunity to grow and mature as an educator and a psychologist. Given the breadth of experience that I have received, as well as the diversity of the individuals that I have worked with, I have truly been able to develop my skills during my teaching and professional career. I believe in personalizing and customizing treatments plans to fits the needs of the individual client, rather than trying to fit all clients into one or two psychotherapy modes. I work in partnership with clients to assist them in exploring and prioritizing their issues, in a safe, positive, environment. Treatment plans are flexible, evolving with the needs of the individual person. Appointment times and dates are also very flexible, with evening appointments available as needed. I believe in treating the entire person, rather than one part of them, since people are complex & issues tend to be interrelated. I combine elements from different psychotherapeutic modalities, in order to meet the needs of an individual.. This applies to all issues, including AD/HD, giftedness, depression, anxiety, & addictions. One treatment modality that can be very helpful with many different issues is hypnotherapy, and I find that many clients benefit greatly from this type of therapy, once we have established good trust and rapport, and have explored some of the most important therapeutic issues.

There are times in all of our lives when we experience difficulties. We may feel as though we are struggling to stay afloat as waves of stress, conflict, or pain threaten to overwhelm us and pull us under. While we may not be able to stop the waves, counselling can help us to discover strategies and make changes that will not only help us stay afloat, but increase our sense of strength and confidence to manage whatever comes our way. Counselling is a collaborative process that begins with identifying your goals and clarifying a plan to help you achieve what you want out of life. These plans can be adjusted at any time to best meet your needs and to manage any barriers that may be getting in the way. Many people find that counselling increases personal insight and wisdom, which can lead to living a more meaningful, joyful and authentic life.
