Therapy For People is a psychotherapy private practice. It is where people come to heal – themselves, their families, their relationships, and their lives. We believe that healing is possible – that change is possible, and even cure. We also believe that therapy is for everyone. Regardless of your struggle, diagnosis, or problem, therapy can help. At Therapy for People, we help our clients ‘heal up’. The term ‘healing up’ has many meanings – if you cut yourself, your body heals up the cut. In therapy, healing up also means recovering from your emotional wounds, re-configuring your dysfunctional belief systems. When we do this, we free up our energy towards effectively solving the problems that life brings. When we heal up, we also are able to heal up our family lines – recovering from our own trauma, and the ancestral, cultural and historical trauma we also carry. Come, heal yourself.

Joyce Achtnig is a registered psychologist and Canadian Certified Counsellor and founder of the Alberta Counselling Centre, a private practice focused on providing thorough psycho-educational assessments and psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults. She possesses a comprehensive understanding of children who exhibit exceptionalities, and how psychoeducational reports can be utilized to support their unique learning profiles by providing appropriate educational programming to facilitate their academic success. She has developed expertise in screening for Autism Spectrum Disorder, giftedness, Specific Learning Disorders, Intellectual Disability, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in children, adolescents, and adults. Joyce approaches assessments with a unique understanding and from multiple perspectives, that of a teacher, a parent, and an experienced clinician. She is a permanently certified Alberta teacher and former high school teacher, with a solid background in educational psychology and special education. She also has three children and has children in the GATE program. Joyce offers free, 30 minute, no-commitment consultations to any parents or individuals who are interested in an assessment. This appointment is useful in determining if assessment is indeed necessary, to answer any questions you may have concerning child or adult assessments, and to make sure that you feel comfortable. This free consultation can take place in person, over the phone, or over Skype. PSYCHOTHERAPY: Joyce makes it easier for you to benefit from therapy; she provides direct billing options and the convenience of receiving treatment in-office, through online video counselling, or telephone sessions. She primarily helps children and adults who suffer from ADHD, LDs, and anxiety disorders improve functioning, self-esteem, and quality of life. Joyce also has a keen interest and experience in treating trauma, and is an approved provider for Veteran Affairs Canada (VAC), the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and Citizens Immigration Canada (CIC).
