What I’d like you to know about me is that I love being a psychologist. I love meeting people, hearing their life stories, and finding ways to help them. When I started as a psychologist, I led workshops and retreats, facilitated many therapy groups, and gave seminars. Later, I started a clinical office practice, specializing in body-focused psychotherapy and women’s issues. As the years went by, I became fascinated with the energy that permeates all life and how this energy affects each person. This led me to working with people who had been traumatized, have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and for some, have Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), also called Multiple Personality Disorder. I have also studied and received certificates in Bio-Energetics, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing, and I have some training in BodyNamics, a psycho-physical system developed in Holland. In addition to my psychotherapy practice, since 2001 I have been a member of the Collaborative Family Separation Professionals, formerly the Collaborative Family Law Group Victoria. I work with lawyers, mental health professionals, and financial advisors to help clients find equitable and harmonious solutions for separation and divorce. Before I became a psychologist, I taught elementary school in Vancouver and also trained teachers at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia. Children develop in their own unique time and way, and are naturally resilient. Sometimes, this resiliency needs to be nurtured in order for a child to heal from difficult experiences, cope with everyday life, and gain new ways of being. If your child is struggling with anxiety, self/emotional regulation, or behaviour, you as a parent/caregiver can feel at a loss for what to do. Therapy can help any child, regardless of age or ability. I strive to tap into each young person's innate coping skills and creativity, by providing an accepting place for self-expression and growth. I will carefully choose therapy approaches for your child/youth based on their development, interests, comfort-level, and most pressing needs or symptoms. Treatment may include play-therapy, expressive activities such as art, social-skill development, and learning and practicing new ways of thinking and behaving (Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy). Over 20 years as an educator, consultant, and counsellor for children, including those with challenges such as ASD, ADHD, and behaviour difficulties, I have refined my skills in adapting treatment for any child. I look forward to working with you, the parent/caregiver as a partner in your special young person's healing. Contact me today for more information or to book an appointment.

I work with clients in an integrated and holistic manner. I prefer the least intrusive approach that respects the person’s wisdom and resources (and their ability to connect with them). I'm passionate about using a model that appreciates and includes our minds, bodies, spirit, and emotions. I believe that many people are longing for a change. That they have a small and quiet voice inside that possesses a different feeling of truth. Clients often benefit from examining patterns of behaviour, thoughts, and emotions. By increasing conscious contact with our mental, emotional, and physical worlds, aspects that are blocking potential can be released. Often we are able to gain greater access to that voice inside. I draw upon diverse therapeutic resources, depending on the presenting need. Clients may prefer a practical "tune up" which can be achieved quickly or to delve deeper into insight and healing. Clients most often contact me regarding anxiety and/or depression, which can present in a variety of ways. I also see clients experiencing challenges with emotions, relationships, grief, trauma, and pain.

I help clients live more fulfilling lives by helping them manage the stress and anxiety of daily life. There are very few people who don’t experience some level of stress or anxiety. Many of my clients are very successful in different areas of their lives but still do not feel happy or fulfilled. Many people think that their happiness awaits them once they achieve or reach certain milestones and goals such as getting married, earning a certain amount of money or getting that sought after promotion. But status, money, and achievement do not necessarily equal happiness and fulfillment. Feeling truly fulfilled often takes introspective investigation, reflection, letting go of the past and identifying what really matters in your life. Most of us are too busy, stressed or anxious to take the time to do this. There are high costs for not making your life a priority especially if you live in a constant state of stress. Most people who are stressed are going at such a fast pace that they don’t even know where they are going or what their purpose is anymore. They are caught up in the typical stress cycle of trying to just keep up with their never ending to do list. One important thing to understand about stress is that it pumps our bodies with adrenaline. The feeling of adrenaline can be addictive. Unfortunately, many people are unknowingly addicted to the cycle of stress. One indication of being trapped in the stress cycle is if you have difficulty relaxing. Chronic stress is a modern day toxin that affects mental and physical health, happiness and fulfillment, and can even shorten your life span. I encourage my clients to take chronic stress very seriously and help them start to make shifts in their lives. I have noticed when my clients become more connected with themselves their lives move along more effortlessly. Challenges, obstacles and curveballs come along in life but the key is learning how to most effectively deal with them when they show up. When you come from a place of authenticity you are more easily able to function in life. I believe if we put time aside to work on ourselves we tap into resources that we often didn’t even know existed. Most of us have thinking patterns, beliefs, relationship patterns and emotional reactions that we learned as a child and yet still carry on through our adult lives. Many of these patterns are not even conscious to us until we really start to dig deep. Through life coaching and a holistic approach I will help you not only establish and achieve meaningful goals but guide you on a discovery process of how to live your best life. If this resonated with you and you are feeling ready to make changes in your life and live the life you truly want then I encourage you to contact me for a consultation session. *Please also note: Stress and anxiety are affecting children and adolescents more than ever before. I have a few life coaching / psychotherapy spots available for children and teens (5-18yrs). I also do life coaching for student athletes to help with athletic performance and reduction of performance anxiety. Take the first step to help. Call or Email Monica Kvas now!
