Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) is a system of growing and distributing produce that restores the link between us as a Verfied MyPick Local Farmer and you as a consumer. The Community Supported Agriculture concept is when customers purchase a 'share' of what we are growing or raising. In exchange for that share they get a selection of items from the farm on a regular basis throughout the growing season. In early spring each year, you can register for a share of the year’s harvest from our local farm. As an example, if you registered for a share you would get a weekly amount of vegetables and other raised products for the entire growing season. You pay (partly) for the share prior to the growing season to allow us to purchase all the necessary seeds and inputs to make the vegetables grow and are agreeing to also share in the risks that are associated with farming such as crop failure. As a farmer, we will do everything in our power to eliminate the chance of failure; however, there is always a chance due to weather or something completely out of their control. In the years that we have operated our CSA there has never been any such problems. If there ever was a weather event that affected some of the crop, what it will likely mean is you would get more of one type of crop. 5 Great Things about CSA 1. Provides local farmers with an economically viable farm business 2. Consumers gain access to affordable, fresh, & local organic foods 3. Consumers learn about what grows in Ontario and how to “eat seasonally” 4. Strengthens the local economy and builds community 5. Less transportation & packaging makes for a healthier local environment - See more at: http://www.arthurgreenhouses.ca/index.php/csa-and-fresh-produce/csa/what-is-csa#sthash.LTdW3oFA.dpuf
