As an integrative therapist, I help my clients to become mindful observers of their experiences. Instead of getting habitually stuck in the same old "reactive" patterns that are neither satisfying, healthy or useful, I teach clients to respond creatively in the present moment. Many problems and issues people face can be understood as a result of a fixed way of relating to self, others and the world. Change occurs as issues are resolved, healthy beliefs are established, and the necessary skills are learned. Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) & Clinical Hypnosis Unique to my practice is the integration of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based approach combined with the oldest healing practice, hypnosis. CBT helps people to understand how they think about themselves, others and the world. Clients learn to challenge their thoughts so they can become more balanced and less extreme, thereby improving mood. Integrating CBT with clinical -therapeutic hypnosis helps clients to relax more deeply, focus, and mobilize imagery. Hypnosis can also help clients to change core beliefs and process difficult memories or traumas while under a relaxed state. EMDR EMDR is a therapy that was first used with combat vetrans with PTSD, but has quickly become to be useful in eliminating all the symptoms associated with stress and trauma (from PTSD symptoms like flashbacks, panic attacks, intrusive thoughts, anxiety and phobias, through the continuum of depression, over-reactive anger, worrying, disturbed sleep, etc). When you have completed EMDR Therapy you will not only have resolved past traumatic memories, you will also be comfortable with any present day triggers that developed, and confident about any challenging issues coming up in the future. Overcoming Fear and the Stuck-State Cycle One of the ways I work with clients is to help them break the unhealthy patterns perpetuated by fear and avoidance. Change will not happen unless fear can be challenged and the necessary steps are taken to build up confidence. Unfortunately, too many of us settle with our fears and accept our limitations, rather than going beyond them. I work with people to come into contact with their fears gradually and to break the avoidance keeping them stuck.
