All of us have felt stressed out, anxious, or down at one point or another. Sometimes we can handle it quite well, get back on track, and keep going without much difficulty. Other times we are much more affected. If you find that the situation you are currently dealing with is interfering with your sleep, eating patterns, mood, coping ability, concentration, focus, relationships or any part of your daily functioning, it would be helpful to talk with a psychologist. I believe that you are the expert about yourself and your experience. You are capable of fulfilling your potential for growth, coping with life’s difficulties, and moving forward. I can provide a therapeutic environment that is comfortable, non-judgmental, and empathetic in which to discover and hone your internal resources. By working collaboratively with you and focusing on specific goals it is my hope that together we can come up with solutions to current difficulties and modify unhelpful thinking and behaviour. I look forward to meeting you!

Research supports the idea that emotional and physical health are closely linked and that therapy can improve a person's overall sense of wellbeing. It follows that stressors can impact the whole person and that trauma can turn one's world upside down. Sexual and physical assault, combat, or serious accidents are all examples of traumatic events that can cause an array of distressing symptoms. Anxiety, depression, flashbacks, dissociation along with nausea, and chronic muscle tension are common. I specialize in the treatment of trauma disorders and symptoms, and I can help you learn new ways of managing these memories and feelings. In my work I follow principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and I utilize Prolonged Exposure (PE) to treat chronic PTSD. PE is a highly efficacious modality and it has been found to reduce intrusive thoughts and images, nightmares, while also improving daily functioning, and one's ability to cope with stress. It is my commitment to support my clients on their journey in a professional, compassionate and respectful manner. I work with individuals 18 and over and I offer a safe therapeutic environment that is culture, race, gay and trans positive. Specializations: Trauma, such as sexual abuse or assault. Family violence, such as verbal, emotional, mental and physical abuse. Anxiety, phobias, and panic. Depression and helplessness. Anger management. Self-esteem issues. Isolation and loneliness. Workplace and academic issues and burnout. Sexual and gender identity. Communication, boundaries and assertiveness. Hypnotherapy and relaxation. Please call for more information.

Dreams are a creative way to work with the unconscious. To be creative means to bring something into being, and the unconscious is a source for that new being. We are not just what we know of ourselves—there is the greater potential of life in us which is like that of a great ice berg—we see the tip of it, this is what we know of ourselves, but the vastness of it’s being is down below in the depths where we do not see it—this shimmers from below like the greater possibility of life yet unseen within the individual. Our suffering has meaning and if we are struggling or in crisis this can be the catalyst for change. Our recognition that something is out of balance is the first step in recognizing we need help. Perhaps we are struggling with loss or sadness, anger, frustration, anxiety or depression. Or a door has closed and we fear another will not open. Carl Jung (1875-1961), the Swiss psychiatrist who developed analytical psychology tells us that “certain types of pain…are symbolically meaningful. This is one way the unconscious expresses itself.” Jung explored the depths of the soul through dreams, art and mythology and emphasized the importance of the understanding of the psyche. Our psyche is a part of nature and dreams come from that nature to speak to us in a metaphoric language. Our work together will be to explore these metaphors from your dreams, feelings, memories and reflections in a safe therapeutic environment. The result of our work is a deeper, more meaningful relationship with your authentic Self, others and the world. This greater relationship with yourself is the catalyst for healing, transformation and personal development. This healing work requires commitment and is a personal investment in your self to benefit you and your journey through life. PSYCHOLOGY FOR A CREATIVE DEEPENING INTO SOUL
