Fat-ypus Skis offers skis for: Heli skiing, Cat skiing, Powder skiing, Backcountry skiing, Big mountain skiing (on and off piste), All mountain skiing, Park and Pipe skiing, and an Olympic Level Mogul ski! 2012 Fat-ypus Ski Construction Ski Construction: All Fat-ypus skis utilize the same basic construction characteristics throughout the entire line from the fattest to the skinniest. We build Fat-ypus skis to be as bomb proof and reliable from the first day they hit the snow until the last day you ski them, hang them on your wall and remember all the good times. Fat-ypus uses the most robust and light weight materials we can find with world class cutting edge design by expert ski builder Jared Mazlish. Fat-ypus employs the world class hand laminators from the Never Summer Manufacturing Facility in Denver Colorado. Never Summer is best known for their super high quality hand made snowboards. Fat-ypus skis supplies the designs, material specifications and Fat ski expertise and Never Sumer builds our top quality hand made product. The core of every Fat-ypus ski is made from vertically laminated poplar. The light weight yet stiff and responsive flex pattern of the wood, especially when vertically laminated allows us to literally shave off weight and provide for a super thin, light weight and torsionally stiff responsive core. The A-Lotta, our fattest yet thinnest ski is only 11 mm thick at the bindings. Our biggest ski, the massive A-Lotta Rocker 190, weighs in at an impressively light for its size 11 lbs per pair. Our lightest and smallest skis, the all new woman's 162 X-Sight floats in at just over 5lbs. Next we use Tri-directional fiberglass for reinforcement on the top and bottom of the core. We include additional layers under the binding mount area for added stiffness underfoot and binding retention. We add or remove layers to affect the flex pattern of any given model and length. Our side walls are about as bomber as they get made from P-tex and averaging about 9 mm thick into the ski. This adds reinforcement and strength to the overall ski design and ensures the long life of the ski by preventing side wall blowouts common in lesser brands. Should the sidewall somehow become damaged it is easily repaired by an astute ski technician. Lesser skis are usually thrown in the trash if this calamity occurs. Edges are the cream of the crop too! We use a full 2 mm Rockwell 48 hardened steel that runs the entire length of the ski. The edge runs all the way around the tip and tail in one piece to ensure durability and sure footed edge hold on any type of train. The hardened steel holds it’s sharp edge better than the lesser quality materials used on most skis manufactured overseas. The Rockwell 48 edge is more likely to resist damage when you inevitably hit a rock or two. Any good skier will tell you just by looking at the base material alone, Fat-ypus skis spare no expense. We use a full 1.5 mm thick Graphite Sintered P-Tex base material. The base material is thicker than on many less expensive skis and the fact that it is fortified with graphite makes it vary hard and exceptionally fast. On top of that the base is sintered to increase overall glide performance. The hard graphite base has the ability to ward against most rocks with only a light scratch or scar most of the time. The instantly recognizable fat ‘F’ and ‘fat-ypus’ base graphics are Die Cut super bright Graphite Sintered P-Tex too. To finish off these hand made marvels of modern ski engineering we use the industries best ABS plastic top sheets that resist scratching and scarring better than most other materials. The top sheets also provide the super cool vibrant graphics that fat-ypus have become known for. For more information please go to our website
