What I’d like you to know about me is that I love being a psychologist. I love meeting people, hearing their life stories, and finding ways to help them. When I started as a psychologist, I led workshops and retreats, facilitated many therapy groups, and gave seminars. Later, I started a clinical office practice, specializing in body-focused psychotherapy and women’s issues. As the years went by, I became fascinated with the energy that permeates all life and how this energy affects each person. This led me to working with people who had been traumatized, have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and for some, have Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), also called Multiple Personality Disorder. I have also studied and received certificates in Bio-Energetics, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing, and I have some training in BodyNamics, a psycho-physical system developed in Holland. In addition to my psychotherapy practice, since 2001 I have been a member of the Collaborative Family Separation Professionals, formerly the Collaborative Family Law Group Victoria. I work with lawyers, mental health professionals, and financial advisors to help clients find equitable and harmonious solutions for separation and divorce. Before I became a psychologist, I taught elementary school in Vancouver and also trained teachers at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia. I help people cope with problems of everyday living, such as decision making, communication, parenting, relationships, grief, co-dependency and assertiveness. As well, I have the following special interests: Generalized anxiety – You may feel nervous or anxious most of the time for no apparent reason. Panic attacks – You may feel generalized anxiety and experience physical sensations even to the point where you think you are having a heart attack. Specific anxiety – You may have fears things or circumstances such as spiders, flying, dental or medical procedures, or public speaking. To help you cope with anxiety, I offer a free anxiety management support group on Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Island Mental Health Building, 125 Skinner Street, Victoria. No pressure environment. No registration required. Obsessive-compulsive thoughts and behaviours – Perhaps you cannot seem to stop thinking certain thoughts such as “Did I lock the door?”, or engaging in specific behaviours such as checking or arranging things, or excessive hand washing. Emotional and physical trauma – You may be suffering from trauma, resulting from physical or sexual assault, accidents, medical procedures or witnessing a violent act. Depression – You may be feeling chronically sad, depressed or “stuck” in life. Men’s issues – Perhaps you are having difficulty communicating or maintaining relationships, or feel “lost”. Chronic pain – You may be experiencing ongoing pain that interferes with your quality of life, whether from an accident or a disease such as fibromyalgia. Contact me today for more information.

A Jungian approach to therapy responds to the deeper needs of individuals in the contemporary world. This includes providing answers to such questions as the nature of both women's and men's psychology and the place of religious, spiritual and other higher values in life. Although one may be attracted to this approach to therapy for various reasons, a typical client often experiences a sense of alienation and meaninglessness in life along with symptoms of anxiety and depression. In some cases one is already on a spiritual path and seeking more self-awareness. Others have read books by Jung or some of his disciples and are interested in individuation and the individuation process. Jung used the latter term to describe a life that is creatively directed by the Self or wholeness. To put oneself consciously on that path is the ultimate goal of Jungian therapy.
