Fresh Medicine is here to help you benefit from the comprehensive Health and Wellness services that are part of your supplemental insurance. We customize a natural approach to your personal life and workplace.
The goal of Fresh Medicine is to develop an environment where nature and science work together to restore balance in your health. Dr. Heald is a naturopathic doctor and practices functional medicine, where each individual’s environment and biodiversity are explored to optimize health and function. This translates to improved energy, productivity, morale, while preventing injury and illness. Our programs can be ongoing or event based through Lunch and Learns, and can be tailored to suit your needs. Dr. Heald’s healthcare career began in 1979, when she trained as a registered nurse. Her area of specialty in nursing was focused primarily in Emergency Medicine but included several years in community based medicine as well. After 18 years she switched professions and worked as a financial consultant for 6 years. Having developed a full understanding of stress, she then pursued her lifelong dream of practicing medicine. She attended and graduated from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, a fully accredited naturopathic medical school in Vancouver, BC. She has an in-depth understanding and great respect for conventional medicine, but is passionate about integrative and functional medicine. Health and illness form a continuum. Understanding and teaching nutrition and healthy lifestyle and addressing concerns before they become illness is a niche naturopathic medicine fulfills. Dr. Heald's special interests within the field of naturopathic medicine include environmental medicine and detoxification, hormone imbalances, as well as joint restoration using prolotherapy. She is board certified in acupuncture and minor surgery, as well as being certified in intravenous therapy, advanced cardiac life support, chelation therapy (ACAM.org) neural therapy and prolotherapy. She is a board member of the College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta, and chairs the competence committee. She is also a member of the College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC and is an advisor to the quality assurance committee, as well as being a member of the American College for the Advancement of Medicine, the Institute for Functional Medicine and the American Academy of Anti-aging Medicine. Dr. Heald has commenced advanced training for her fellowship in functional and regenerative medicine.
