Description
Between 1984 and 2005, The Senator expanded from a family restaurant into one of the most renowned hospitality operations in the city. The adjacent property earned worldwide acclaim as the Senator Steakhouse and the Top O' The Senator Jazz Club from 1989-2005.

A sister restaurant to the diner, The Famous, is now in operation in the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Now in our 76th year of operation, in the same location, we honor everyone our longtime staff, suppliers and clientele alike - who have contributed to our success.

We take constant pride in the traditions and commitment to this family business, which will continue on for generations. The Senator began as a home and remains one to our many valued friends and customers.

Established in the 1920's and still going strong. The place is jammed on weekends because the food is really good. The atmosphere is like a 1940's jazz club in present time. Friendly service and a relaxed vibe all around.

Nice location! This diner-style restaurant is just east off Dundas Sqare - a little south and east of Yonge and Dundas.
Lot's of booth seating, with a somewhat predictable breakfast menu. Mind you, breakfast tends to be a fairly routine meal no matter where you eat. The Senator has freshly cooked eggs and omlettes served with salsa and some excellent home-fried potatoes.

Hours are great (it was open early vs other restaurants in the area).

Overall, a great place to meet for breakfast.

I just recently tried this restaurant while on errands in TO. It was delightful! I love the great atmosphere and the staff are friendly and helpful. But the food is where it is at - huge portions and great quality and flavours. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!

This has historically been a great place to experience live jazz music, however I'm not sure if that's still in their "mandate". Most importantly though, the food. It was what you'd expect from a run of the mill diner. Pound for pound; burger for burger, it was better than Fran's Restaurant just down the street. They use their very unique space (which faces the Canon Theatre) as a special event space as well. Perfect for bar-mitzvahs, stags, and other cool events where you're looking to gulp and munch. Price is typical of restaurants in the Dundas Square area (higher than anywhere else in the city, because they target tourists and people with no interest or knowledge of niche, neighbourhood spots of the same quality). Come hither for some late-day dinner!

I've been here for a lunch a few times and the food is very good. The Cobb salad is the best i've had in years! It's also a great atmosphere and has a lot of history. There are interesting things to read on the wall, such as really old menus, by the cash bar. Service is pretty good despite how busy it gets at lunchtime. This is a great little spot!
