Midtown’s on a major sugar rush thanks to Chris McDonald. The Cava chef and owner just opened Xococava, a sweets and ice cream shop next to his popular Spanish restaurant in Delisle Court. His self-described candy shop for adults carries 12 flavours of artisanal ice cream, churros, chocolate bars, cakes, pastries, espresso and handmade truffles. Pastry chef Laura White (of the former JS Bonbons) and McDonald’s partner and Cava chef Doug Penfold is stationed at the front window of the store making the bonbons on a marble slab, enticing Delisle Court passersby with the rich smells and sights of chocolate in the making. The truffles -- categorized under Spanish, Savoury, Wild, Exotic and Classic -- are offered in flavours like chorizo, rosemary and honey, cajeta, fennel pollen, grappa cherry and mint.
