Since 2004, Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North has been partnering with hard-working families to provide them with a hand up into home ownership, by mobilizing volunteers and community partners to create sustainable affordable housing.
Through volunteer labour and donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity works with partner families to build safe, decent and affordable homes. Houses are sold to partner families with a zero cash down payment, and are financed with affordable, no-interest mortgages. Families invest 500 hours of their own labour, called "sweat equity, " into building their own houses and those of other families in lieu of a cash down payment.
