With an overwhelming sense of compassion toward the circumstances of others, it was only natural that when I chose a career, that it would be in the field of social work. Being a registered social worker for 12 years and a clinical traumatologist, has provided me the privilege of working extensively with children and families across many diverse communities, and to assist individuals and families in many different phases of their lives.
A role in which I focus on advocacy, therapeutic counselling, crisis intervention and safety. I have worked closely with physicians, schools, law enforcement, family/youth court, and many other community partners. My strengths based approach to practice, has helped families believe that they can effect positive change and with valuable networking, assessment and counselling, that change can be meaningful and long lasting. For me, it is not about telling people how to cope with their difficulties, it is about helping individuals understand how to help themselves. To truly empower them. Confidential and dignified services are offered to children in the area of: Abuse, Anxiety/Depression, Bullying, Self-esteem and Relationship issues. Adult services are offered in the area of Domestic Violence/Relationship issues, Support for families involved in the Child Welfare System, Anxiety/Depression and Postpartum Depression. Evidence based techniques used include, CBT, Mindfulness, Strength-based and Solution-focused. I find it extremely rewarding when a person realizes their potential to make successful changes in their life. There are strengths in every person.
