Many of my clients are very successful in different areas of their lives but still do not feel happy or fulfilled. Many people think that their happiness awaits them once they achieve or reach certain milestones and goals such as getting married, earning a certain amount of money or getting that sought after promotion. But status, money, and achievement do not necessarily equal happiness and fulfillment. Feeling truly fulfilled often takes introspective investigation, reflection, letting go of the past and identifying what really matters in your life. Most of us are too busy, stressed or anxious to take the time to do this.
There are high costs for not making your life a priority especially if you live in a constant state of stress. Most people who are stressed are going at such a fast pace that they don’t even know where they are going or what their purpose is anymore. They are caught up in the typical stress cycle of trying to just keep up with their never ending to do list. One important thing to understand about stress is that it pumps our bodies with adrenaline. The feeling of adrenaline can be addictive. Unfortunately, many people are unknowingly addicted to the cycle of stress. One indication of being trapped in the stress cycle is if you have difficulty relaxing. Chronic stress is a modern day toxin that affects mental and physical health, happiness and fulfillment, and can even shorten your life span. I encourage my clients to take chronic stress very seriously and help them start to make shifts in their lives. I have noticed when my clients become more connected with themselves their lives move along more effortlessly. Challenges, obstacles and curveballs come along in life but the key is learning how to most effectively deal with them when they show up. When you come from a place of authenticity you are more easily able to function in life. I believe if we put time aside to work on ourselves we tap into resources that we often didn’t even know existed. Most of us have thinking patterns, beliefs, relationship patterns and emotional reactions that we learned as a child and yet still carry on through our adult lives. Many of these patterns are not even conscious to us until we really start to dig deep.
